Leveling Up: Are "Premium" Pokémon Pops the Future of Our Collections?

If you’ve been in the Funko game as long as I have, you know the drill. We love the commons, we hunt the chases, and we begrudgingly pay resale for the vaulted grails. But lately, it feels like Funko has been testing the waters with something different. We've seen it with the Block Art and the Facet lines, but now they are finally bringing that higher-end energy to the biggest franchise of them all: Pokémon.

With the 30th Anniversary of Pokémon kicking off, Funko is leaning hard into their new "Pop! Premium" line, and honestly? It’s about time.

For years, we’ve been asking for molds that feel a bit more substantial, something that bridges the gap between a standard $12 vinyl and a high-end statue. It looks like March is going to be a huge month for seeing if this new direction pays off.

The "Premium" Difference

So, what are we actually getting with these? Funko is promising "premium vinyl material" and slightly larger scaling. If you picked up the Premium Pikachu that dropped earlier in February, you probably noticed the finish feels different—sturdier, with a crisper paint application that really pops (pun intended) on the shelf.

But the big news for us Gen 1 lovers is what’s dropping this March.

Coming in March: Venusaur Gets the Premium Treatment

Mark your calendars for late March (rumors are pointing to March 22nd), because the Premium Venusaur is hitting the streets. Standing at about 4.4 inches, this isn't just a reprint of the old 10-inch or the standard size. It’s a specific mold designed to look good both in-box and out-of-box (OOB).

The price point is sitting around $23.99, which is a jump from the standards, but for a piece that is meant to be a centerpiece rather than just "bulk," it feels justified. It seems Funko is finally realizing that adult collectors want quality over quantity sometimes.

Where to Snag Them

One headache we all deal with is actually finding these releases without fighting bots or driving to five different big-box stores. If you're looking to secure the wave without the hassle, we’ve actually got allocations for these over at Urban Storage LLC.

We’ve been ramping up our collectibles section at urbanstoragellc.com, and we made sure to stock up on the Premium Pokémon line because we know how fast the pre-orders tend to vanish. Whether you need the new Venusaur or you're playing catch-up on the Pikachu, you can grab them directly through us and save the gas money.

What’s Next?

With Pikachu and Venusaur leading the charge, and Charizard and Blastoise already teased for later in 2026, it’s pretty clear that "Premium" isn't just a buzzword—it’s the new standard for the heavy hitters.

Are you upgrading your Kanto starters to the Premium line, or sticking with the OGs? Let me know in the comments, and don't forget to check out the shop if you need to fill that spot on your shelf.

Happy hunting!
